The QLD Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) requires all persons seeking to apply for an Owner-Builder Permit to complete this course where the total commercial value of works (labour and materials, inc. GST) exceeds $11,000.

Upon satisfactory completion of this course, students will receive a Nationally Recognised "Statement of Attainment" and will be able to apply to the QLD Building and Construction Commission for their owner-builder permit.

Any person with a relevant QBCC licence may be eligible for exemption from doing this course. Please contact the QBCC to find out if you qualify for an exemption.

Our owner-builder course will not teach you how to swing a hammer or tell you the standard regulation distance between joists. We will teach you how to manage your project and make you aware of your legal responsibilities, obligations and rights. At the end of the day, 90% of owner-builders will act as project-managers and oversee the progress of their project. They are more likely to pick up a pen and sign a cheque or maybe a broom and help clean up the site. Some of the topics covered (to name only a few) include

1. Plan an owner builder construction project;
2. Prepare drawings and identify materials;
3. Estimate costs and evaluate fund sources;
4. Identify statutory requirements relevant to the obligations of the owner builder;
5. Develop strategies to support the administration of an owner builder project;
6. Develop strategies for monitoring and controlling on-site activities of an O.B. Project;
