Q. How much does it all cost?
A. The owner-builder course cost is $99. There is an additional permit fee to the ACT Planning and Land Directorate.

Q. Do I really need an owner-builder licence/permit?
A. Yes. In the A.C.T., if the value of work (labour and materials) exceeds $5,000, you must complete both the owner-builder and white-card courses.

Q. How long is the owner-builder certificate and white-card valid for?
A. The owner-builder certificate is valid for 2 years. The white-card is valid for life.

Q. What is the Unique Student Identifier (USI)?
A. A USI is effectively an account or reference number made up of 10 numbers and letters which looks like AB45H9856K. The USI will allow all of an individual’s training records, entered in the national vocational education and training (VET) data collection, to be linked.

Q. How many questions are there in the online assessment?
A. For the ACT owner-builder course, there are 40 multiple-choice questions.

Q. Can I register and complete the courses from home or work? Or my Ipad or phone?
A. Yes. You can register and complete the courses from any device with an internet connection. Ipads, tablets, phones, PCs or MACs are all fully compatible on our website.

Q. What is the pass mark for the assessment?
A. There is no pass mark. Students will automatically be deemed competent in each module as they are progressing through the assessment.

Q. Do I need to study or buy booklets?
A. Yes to the Study. No to the booklets. You will need to read through the course material at your own pace before you commence the online assessment. Just log in and click on start your course when you are ready to commence.

Q. How long does it take to complete the online course?
A. The A.C.T. owner-builder course will take approximately 2-3 hours to complete online. Your electronic certificate will be emailed to you instantly upon completion and your original certificate will be posted in the mail the same working day.

Q. How many times can I get a question wrong?
A. Unlimited times. We have a close to perfect pass rate. You work through each question using the help tool provided until you answer that question correctly. You can then move on to the next question.

Q. Is the online assessment included in the price of registration?
A. Yes. The original certificate we post out to you is included in the price as well.

Q. Are there any other fees or costs associated when registering with ABSOLUTE Education?

Q. How long does it take to receive my certificate in the mail after I pass the online assessment?
A. We email and post your certificate(s) the same day you complete your course.
We also post out your certificate and physical white-card the same day once all your requirements on the checklist have been ticked off.
If you selected the express post option, you can expect to receive your documents within 1 business day.
If you selected the default (normal) post option, your documents should reach you within 2-4 working days.
