Q. What is the Unique Student Identifier (USI)?
A. A USI is effectively an account or reference number made up of 10 numbers and letters which looks like AB45H9856K. The USI will allow all of an individual’s training records, entered in the national vocational education and training (VET) data collection, to be linked.

Q. How long is the certificate (Statement of Attainment) valid for?
A. For QLD Owner-Builder: The certificate is valid for 5 years, unless there are changes in legislation.
For QLD White-Card: The card is valid for life, unless there are changes in legislation.

A. Yes. Not only are we a Registered Training Organisation (Providor No. 91521), the courses you complete with Absolute are accepted by the above instutions.
Q. Do I have to complete the assessment in one sitting?
A. No. You can complete each module one question at a time and use the help button next to each question. Your results are saved everytime you press the `save answers` button. You can login and logout as many times as you like over however long you need.
Q. How long does it take to complete the online course?
A. For QLD Owner-Builder: The nominal duration is 24 hours. The assessment component will take around 3-4 hours online.
For QLD White-Card: The online assessment will take 4-6 hours.
For WA Owner-Builder: The online assessment will take 1-2 hours.
For SA Owner-Builder: The online assessment will take 1-2 hours.
For VIC Owner-Builder: The online assessment will take 1-2 hours.
Q. How much does it all cost?
A. For QLD, TAS, WA, VIC Owner-Builder: $185.
For SA Owner-Builder: $115.
For QLD W.CARD: $55.00.
Q. Do I need to study or buy booklets?
A. NO. You do NOT need to study or download any course material. Just log in and click on start your course.

Q. What is the pass mark for the assessment?
A. There is no pass mark. Students will be deemed competent in each assessment module that is being assessed in a holistic approach.
Q. What are the steps to becoming an owner builder?
A. Step-1: Register online.
Step-2: Sit the online assessment.
Step-3: Apply to regulating body for your permit with our certificate.
Q. Can I complete the course and sit the assessment from home?
A. YES. You can register and sit the assessment from any computer with an internet connection.
Q. How many times can I sit the online assessment?
A. We have a perfect pass rate. You work through each question using the help tool, until you answer each one correctly.
Q. Do I really need an owner builders licence/permit?
A. In WA, if the value of work (labour and materials) exceeds $20,000, you must complete a WA Building Comission approved course.

In QLD, If the value of work (labour and materials) exceeds $11,000, you must complete a QLD Building Services Authority approved course. If you can show that you have gained a technical building qualification you may be eligible for exemption by the QLD Building Services Authority.

In TAS, if you are spending over $5,000, then you must complete our online course.
Q. Is the online assessment included in the price of registration?
A. YES.
Q. How long does it take to receive my "Statement of Attainment" in the mail after I pass the online exam?
A. We email you the certificate the same day you complete your course.

If you selected the express post option when registering, you can expect to receive your "Statement of Attainment" within 1 business day.

If you didn’t select the express post option when registering, your "Statement of Attainment" will reach you in 2-3 working days.

Q. How long do I have to sit the assessment after I register?
A. 5 years. There is no time limit as to when you have to sit the online exam. The login that you registered with, will be valid for 5 years.
Q. How many questions are there in the online assessment?
A. This varies on which course you sit. The questions are either made up of multiple choice questions or a combination of short answer and multiple choice questions. There are roughly 50-60 common sense multiple choice and short answer questions plus a few short spreadsheet-style grids to complete. Feel free to sit a practice assessment.
